Shut Off the Water Supply
LG refrigerators are equipped with a water filter that needs to be changed every six months or after every 200 gallons of water used. The water filter is located in the back of the refrigerator, and changing it is a simple process. Before you begin, shut off the water supply to the refrigerator. Once the water supply is off, remove the housing cover by unscrewing it from the housing unit.
Remove the Old Filter
1. Remove the old filter from your LG fridge.
2.Push on the release button on the filter housing and twist the filter counterclockwise to remove it.
3.Discard the old filter according to your municipality’s guidelines.
Insert the New Filter
Before you start, be sure to have the following items on hand:
-The new filter
-A Phillips screwdriver
-A rag (optional)
Once you have these items, follow the steps below to insert the new filter:
1. Twist the old filter to the left and pull it down. If your old filter is stuck, wrap a rag around it and twist.
2. Hold the new filter up to the light. You will see an arrow on one end. This arrow should be pointing up when you insert the new filter.
3. Insert the new filter into the housing and push until it stops.
4. Twist the new filter to the right until it clicks into place.
Turn on the Water Supply
Turn on the water supply to your home and open the fridge door. Find the filter compartment, which is usually located in the bottom-right corner of the fridge. The compartment might be behind a small panel that you need to remove.
Once you locate the compartment, twist or push on theold water filter to release it from the housing. Some filters have a red indicator that turns green when it’s time to replace the filter.
Discard the old filter and then remove the new one from its packaging. To install it, simply insert it into the housing and twist it until it’s locked in place.
Check for Leaks
Water filters are an important component of your LG fridge, and it’s important to change them regularly to ensure that your water tastes fresh and clean. Over time, water filters can become clogged with sediment and other contaminants, which can give your water an unpleasant taste. Fortunately, changing your water filter is a relatively simple process that only takes a few minutes.
Before you begin, be sure to check for leaks in your refrigerator’s water line. If you notice any leaks, turn off the water supply to your fridge and call a qualified repair person to fix the problem before proceeding. Once you’ve checked for leaks, follow the steps below to change your LG fridge’s water filter:
1. Locate the water filter housing on the back of your refrigerator. The housing may be located on the top or bottom of the fridge, depending on the model.
2. Rotate the old filter counterclockwise to remove it from the housing.
3. Insert the new filter into the housing and rotate it clockwise until it is securely in place.
4. Flush the new filter by running water through it for several minutes until the water runs clear.
5. Replace any coefficients or abraded materials that came with your new filter according to manufacturer’s instructions before discarding them properly.
How to know when to replace the filter
The water filter on your LG refrigerator should be replaced every six months to ensure that the water dispensed from your fridge is clean, clear and free of contaminants. You can purchase replacement filters from LG or from a local retailer.
When you need to replace the filter, a warning light on the control panel will illuminate to remind you. To reset the light, simply press and hold the “reset” button for three seconds.
